Beginnings
Welcome to Foodie Tourist!
I am a home cook, not always by choice, and sometimes by accident. When I don't *have* to cook, I find I'm quite creative. For years, my mother tried to teach me how to cook. Sadly, she had an intrinsic knowledge about food and how to handle it, that somehow fell through the holes in my mind. That and she is an amazing cook, and I always felt like I would never measure up to her standards. It took me over seven years of living away from her to gain that knowledge and confidence.
Now I understand more! I get why you do certain things with food. You have to start somewhere right? I always felt like that about cooking and food. And yet, very rarely do you actually learn the beginning. The very concept of how to choose the right ingredients, what to look for, how to handle it and how it works in dishes.
I got to searching on the internet for clues. There aren't any. Plenty of recipes telling you how to alter it with heat, spices, and a knife, but not how to begin.
This is me.. exploring food, from a different perspective. I hope you will join me on my journey.
